The Painter
Living in different parts of the world enhanced my sensitivity to the vastness beauty and endless wonders of the world. Time and again I find myself taken to places deep in my visual memory or on location, as I am drawn to communicate the universality of these experiences through my work.
Over the years, my work retained the core elements of brilliant colors, shape, and light applying thick pallet knife strokes and layering techniques, using acrylics, mixed media, oil paints, and watercolors. My work is reflective of my fascination with nature.
The Sculptor
Clay
Studio figure painting along with exploring pottery, is my inspiration to sculpt the figure in clay. The creative process of adding clay to form organic representational figure, the malleability nature of clay enchants me to create expressive three-dimensional forms of the human body. I pay attention to the beauty of the pose, curves, and muscles structure of the model, while connecting emotionally
and deciding what part of this reality I am going to interpret.
Stone
I have always been fascinated by the beauty of rocks, their exquisite colors and formation. As I carve into the stone, I create organic abstract forms. The color, shape, and density of the stone dictates my carving journey. The stone “talks to me”, and I respond in kind.
In 2016, after a beginner’s workshop, I am diagnosed with serious health challenges. I find that Stone carving provides me with a powerful, positive strength.
My first response to my new found reality is the creation of “Hope”, an exquisite Blue Soap stone depicting a human curled in prayer.
While on dialysis, I continue to carve “Embrace”. Next, a strong wish to get a kidney transplant, moves me to choose a yellow Alabaster stone, to which I am driven by its size, color, and potential luminosity. I work excitedly, but my new creation has to pause. My son’s Kidney is transplanted successfully, and I regain life without dialysis. As my body is adjusting to my new Gift of Life and my medical team approves, I joyfully resume carving “Life Reinvigorated”.
I wonder what is next ...
